In a potential breakthrough for diagnosis of heart disease, the field trial of nano technology-enabled sensors for early diagnosis of myocardial infarction is slated to begin soon and they maybe commercially available in a year. Addressing the Indian Science Congress here, Prof V Ramgopal Rao of Centre for Excellence of Nanoelectronics under IIT-Bombay revealed that the lab test for the diagnostic device has been completed successfully.
Prof Rao said the research in the field had been going on for three years had crossed a major milestone and the sensor, called the iSens, is expected to be made commercially available after a year. The sensor, unprecedented in the medical sector, is expected to usher a break through in cost-effective and fast diagnosis of heart diseases.
