There has been no damage to the 1,500-mw Nathpa Jhakri hydel power project in Himachal Pradesh which was hit by sudden flood waters this evening. The Power Ministry officials said water reached a height of 15 metres and crossed over to Rampur. The dam can withstand water up to a height of 23-24 meters. The officials who attended the crisis management meeting called by the Cabinet Secretary today afternoon said by late evening, water had started receding. Officials from the Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation, Army and the state government are monitoring the situation at the border (where Pareechu river enters India) and would alert the lower areas if there is any danger of more flood waters coming in. After today's warning, the flood water reached the dam site within six hours.
