Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation(MOFASC) has finally endorsed the National Level Forest Inventory(NFI) of Nepal that puts the country's forest cover at 29 per cent, down from 38 per cent in the late 70s. Though the report entitled: Forst and Shrub Cover of Nepal - which is based on a seven-year long research conducted during 1989-1996 - was submitted at the Ministry in May, it had not obtained official status till last month.
