The eight-lane expansion of the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway 8 has taken a heavy toll: Thousands of trees have been cut and tens of thousands of birds have been rendered homeless. People For Animals (PFA) is now planning to move the Supreme Court over the large-scale ecological destruction. "Over 10,000 trees have been chopped in Gurgaon alone. These were big and old trees. Our estimate is that 40-50 birds live on each tree. You can imagine the magnitude of the problem," says PFA (Haryana) chairman Naresh Kumar Kadyan.
