A national-level workshop on promoting Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) is being organised by the Haryana Renewable Energy Department in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of the Union Power Ministry on July 11 at Gurgaon. Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Renewable Energy and Power, Ashok Lavasa said the workshop is aimed at highlighting the issues of energy efficient and design, create awareness about ECBC, technological options and project achievements made in energy efficiency in building operational strategies. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would be the chief guest at the inaugural function of the workshop. Hooda would also release a hand book on energy conservation tips for buildings and homes prepared by the Renewable Energy Department. Energy being an essential requirement for human existence and the conventional sources being limited, it was high time to create awareness about efficient use of energy and cutting energy waste. It would be the cheapest, easiest and fastest way to solve many energy related problems and improve environment and enhance both energy security and economic development. It had been observed that adequate attention was not being paid to energy efficiency while designing new buildings. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has developed and introduced an Energy Conservation Building Code in view of five climactic zones in the country. This code defines the minimum energy performance standards for large commercial buildings that have a connected load of 500 KW or greater or a contract demand of 600 KVA or more, having conditioned area of 1000 square meter or more. Haryana Department of Renewable Energy is a state agency for implementing energy conservation programmes and provisions of the Energy Conservation Act. Director of Haryana Renewable Energy Department Sumita Misra said the workshop would be attended by administrative secretaries, heads of departments, architects and engineers of architecture department, housing board, tourism, HUDA, Police Housing Corporation, Urban Development and Town and Country Planning Department. The builders and developers of the NCR like DLF, Ansal and Unitect, representative of Union Ministry of Power, BEE, CII, FICCI and the state designated agencies implementing energy conservation programmes in the country would attend the workshop.
