National policy for street vendors soon

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's intent to project the human face of economic reforms may soon find place in a national policy for street vendors. As per instructions from the Prime Minister's Office, a working group (comprising emminent social workers like Ela Bhat from the Self Employment Women's Association) has been floated to help the Ministry of Urban Development formulate the policy. Sources in the PMO said, objective of the policy, likely to be unveiled in two months, would be to bring vendors in the mainstream of economic activities.
