The first ever rainforest festival in the country, in the likes of the most well known rainforest festivals in the world, held in Malaysia, Australia and Athens will start in the remote Joypur area of Assam on Sunday. Organised by a rainforest conservation movement, Nature's Beckon, 8,000 youth in the state plan not only to inform and involve the people in the protection of this last surviving patch of 88 sq km of rainforests in the Himalayan foothills, but also to launch a global alliance for its protection.
