The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) today challenged Chief Minister Digvijay Singh's claim that the task force had been constituted only to suggest alternative heights for the Maheshwar dam to ensure minimum dislocation of the people. NBA activists Rakesh Diwan and Shreepad Dharmadhikari presented before the Press today a Government notification (no. 12-1-112-27-2-97/1040 OF 29 January, 1998,which states that the task force was constituted to recommend-after comprehensive deliberations - an alternative model of development to the Narmada Valley Projects.
