BNP mining SHILLONG: Denying reports that the State Wildlife Board is supporting the move of the DAE to go ahead with the proposed drilling inside the Balpakram National Park, a senior Forest Department official said there was a communication gap as the statements of NBWL seems to be contradictory. The official while speaking to media persons recently said, "There is some communication gap somewhere as how can they say go ahead and yet they say seek the view of the State. " "Being the apex body the National Wildlife Advisory Board cannot give the verdict and then say go and bring the opinion of the lower body and so I don't think it should be taken as recommendation," the official said on condition of anonymity. The senior official also said the exploratory and investigative drilling is different from mining as it is just a move to find out what is lying below the surface and it is just a temporary activity. The proposed exploratory drilling hit a roadblock with several NGOs protesting the DAE move as they say it would adversely affect the flora and fauna of the park.
