The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area has been planned as a slum-free zone in the coming year. There are nearly 40 slum clusters in the posh NDMC area, with over 20,000 that need to be relocated. NDMC chairman Subhash Sharma on Thursday announced the Budget estimates for the year 2002-2003. Mr. Sharma said that nearly 2,000 jhuggies are ready to be relocated and Rs 70 crore has been set aside for this project.
