Noting a fall in groundwater levels, the fact that all major parks in Delhi are facing water shortage and that the treated effluent used for horticulture purposes leaves behind a foul smell, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is in the process of charting out a plan to address the issues. In a first, the civic body is planning to introduce additional filtration and aeration treatment of the effluent by setting up a plant at the Lodhi Garden. If this pilot project is successful in removing the foul smell from water, while retaining the essential nutrients, the NDMC plans to replicate it in three other public parks in its area
