NEDFi camp for flood-hit people of Lakhimpur

In view of devastating floods affecting Lakhimpur district and nearby areas in Assam, the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) with the help of Gramin Mahila Vikash Kendra, a leading NEDFi assisted NGO of the district, organised three camps in three different locations with close association of the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Jayanta Nalikar also attended one of the three camps. Bleaching powder, medicines, tarpaulin sheets, chira, gur, clothes were distributed among the inmates of the three camps. The first camp was organised on June 27, 2008 in Bagalijan where the embankment of Ranganadi River was breached thereby rendering thousands of people of the area homeless. Tarpaulin sheets along with other materials like bleaching powder, clothes with chira and gur have been distributed covering 88 families. The second camp was organised on June 28, at Elang Mara near Angarkhowa area where more than 100 affected families were given the materials covering more than 7 villages of the area. Bleaching powder was also distributed to all the nearby villages with the help of the youth organisations like Telahi Yuba Mancha and Udayan Group of Azad. The third camp was organised on June 29 at Rangchali village near the breached portion of NH -52, where 114 families were handed over relief materials. KN Hazarika, CMD, NEDFi, said, "It is not only on sunny days that NEDFi is with the people of this region, NEDFi is by their side during their hardship also.'
