While increasing wildlife attack is posing a serious threat to the life and property of the public, especially farmers living on the forest fringes, Wayanad district panchayat has urged the State government to grant sufficient funds from the State budget to mitigate the issue. In a resolution passed by the body on Saturday urged that as every year the number farmers killed in wildlife attack was increasing in the district, the government should allot sufficient funds to construct a rail fence, a granite wall and set-up surveillance cameras on the border of forest areas. Forest guards should also be appointed to tackle the issue. The government had earmarked Rs.100 crore in the 2016-17 budget for the purpose and a major share of the allocation should be utilised in the district. District panchayat president T. Ushakumari presided over the function.
