The absence of public toilets is causing immense hardship to the people in Mithi.
Shopkeepers, social workers and common people say that though Mithi, the district headquarters town, has a population of over 50,000, the municipal administration and its town planners never considered to build public toilets in main areas of the town, in shopping canters, tourists' spots and other public places. After visiting various colonies, private clinics, bus stops, markets and shopping centres, this correspondent has observed that this aspect of public service has received no attention.
The social welfare department and the town administration have been running five shopping centres in Mithi town, but they have not bothered to provide one of the basic amenities to the people.
In some cases, having no alternative, as the people cannot go back to their houses while at work, they use the northern wall of town nazim's office, southern wall of Mukhtiarkar's residence or the western wall of former district nazim's house to relieve themselves.
The municipal administration has been urged to take notice of the issue and construct public toilets at appropriate places in the town.
