Union minister of state for environment and forests Babulal Marandi, emphasised the need for sustainable forests which could provide the people dependent on forests, for their livelihood, apart from their major ecological role. Addressing a two-day workshop on 'National Level Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management in India' in New Delhi, Mr Marandi said that there was urgent need for regular evaluation of the country's forests.
