Neglect of child welfare in India

Some time ago, the Supreme Court held that the children's right to dignified existence must be protected. The Court has now said that the government should work out a welfare scheme for 44 to 100 million children working in pathetic conditions in hazardous industries. In the five tribal districts of Maharashtra, over 8,000 children bellow six years died last May due to hunger and malnutrition. Acute drought, lack of employment and negligence on the part of the government were reported to be the causative factors....editorial
