Nellore Municipal Corporation proposes Rs 6 crore for roads, drains

The municipal corporation held its budget meeting, chaired by district collector and special officer B Rajasekhar on Wednesday. It has decided to spend Rs 6 crore on construction of roads and drains in its 2005-06 budget. As the municipality was upgraded into corporation on October 8, 2004, the municipal council was abolished and district collector assumed charge as its special officer.Municipal commissioner Umapathi proposed to spend Rs 1 crore towards new lighting system, Rs 10 crore towards Rajiv Nagara Bata and Rs 6.50 crore toward the welfare of poor. He said Rs 12,24,53,000 was collected as property tax against the proposed estimation of Rs 12,98,65,000 during the 2004-05 budget. It was estimated to collect Rs 13,40,10,000 as house tax during the present fiscal year. He said Rs 25 lakh was collected as road cutting charges during 2004.
