Nepal continues to be a haven for traffickers in contrabend wildlife products like shahtoosh even though it has some of the most stringent laws in place to check such trade. Kathmandu is one of the largest underground trade centres in the South Asian region for shahtoosh --- wool from an endangered Tibetan antelope ---- fur trade, musk, bear bile, tiger and leopard parts and even trade in live animals through a well-connected smuggling network linking Nepal with China and India, according to a study published by the Wildlife Protection Society of India.
