Nepal firm to protect ozone layer: Koirala

Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Prakash Koirala has said Nepal has made commitment for reducing the elements that destroy the ozone layer by 2010 as Nepal is a party to the Protocol on Protection of Ozone Layer. In a message given on the occasion of the International Ozone Day -2005, he said the amended displacement rate has also been published in the Nepal Gadget as per the decision of the 16 th meeting of the countries signing the protocol in Montreal last year. Minister Koirala said harmful ultra violate rays come out of the sun light which is also the inalienable source of life, and is stopped by the ozone gas at an altitude of 15 to 60 kms as a protection shield.
