The King of Nepal has proposed building an electric railway line from the country's southern business hub to the Chinese border, a Nepalese government official has said. On Friday, King Gyanendra proposed building a railway line from Birganj, a commercial centre in southern Nepal, to Tatopani near the border with the Tibet autonomous region of China, the official said on Monday. The railway would promote Nepal's goal of becoming a transit link between China and India, he said. Nepal's two giant neighbours are trading more with each other as their economies develop. The railway should also increase tourism between Nepal and China, according to the British based Tibet information network.
