Efforts to save tigers in the wild in Nepal are under a cloud with the disappearance of a tigress and the death of at least two cubs in a national park covered by a Norwegian-funded research project. Norwegian researchers who radio-collared the tigress, Khaura Pothi, in the Royal Bardia Reserve in Nepal's far west, have been blamed for her disappearance and the death by starvation of two cubs, that independent conservationists say were hers. The Norwegian team headed by prof. Per Wegge of the Agriculture University of Norway have denied the charge, and accusations that the deaths were caused by "sloppy research work" and "abuse" by the research team.
