By Our Reporter SHILLONG: Expressing grave concern over environmental degradation, various NGOs from South Garo Hills have come together under the banner of Chitmang Hills Anti-Mining Forum (CHAMF) to intensify the campaign against unscientific mining in the district and push for early announcement and implementation of the State Mining Policy. CHAMF, a conglomerate of five NGOs -- SYCO, YDVC, GSU, Samrakshan Trust and BCF -- was formed at a public meeting at the Baghmara Indoor Stadium, South Garo Hills on September 20. CHAMF general secretary Ginseng D Sangma on Thursday said unscientific mining was a matter of great concern as it had affected the environment. Mr Sangma demanded that the State Government should implement a proper mining policy to curb unscientific mining in the district in particular and the State in general.
