We are not obsessed by here and now when we note with distress the cutting down of hundreds of trees on The Delhi-Jaipur highway near Gurgaon. The tree mafia, referred to as the forest mafia in the wider context, is axing the roots of the environment. Self-destruction is beligerently masterminded by swindlers, money -makers , land-grabbers, timber merchants and wood contractors in connivance with politicians and the so-called protectors of green belts.
