Brushing aside criticism that the proposed mixed land use policy for the Capital would benefit the builders' mafia, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken asserted that "no blank cheque'' had been given to the "big fish'' and only small traders and middle families would benefit from the decision when implemented. Reacting to the outburst of some residents' welfare associations over the proposed changes in the Master Plan for Delhi, Mr. Maken told that by allowing commercial activity on the ground floor in residential areas, DDA had provided relief to lakhs of small traders and middle class families whose only source of income was the small shop in the residential premises.
