New Ponda council chief takes stock of city hygiene

Newly elected Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairman Sanjay Naik on Monday convened a meeting with municipal and health officials, to discuss the ways to stop dumping of garbage and sewage water into the gutters in the town. The Ponda Municipal Council chairman asked Dr Keshav Priolkar to take appropriate measure to stop the dumping of garbage and sewage water into the gutters. "The gutters have been constructed to channelise rainwater and it is not meant for garbage and sewage water,' said Sanjay Naik. Pointing out that most gutters and drains were clogged with garbage and sewage water, the Ponda Municipal Council chairman also stated that sewage water frequently seen overflowing on the roads. Those who attended included Ponda Health Officer Dr Keshav Priolkar, PMC Chief Officer Jayant Tari, Municipal Engineer Vishnu Naik and Councillors Venkatesh Naik and Kishor Naik. Before the meeting, the Ponda Municipal Council chief visited a number of sites in the town, before alerted officials of the need to promote hygiene and sanitation in the municipality. The Ponda Municipal Council Chairman has convened a meeting of hoteliers and builders on Wednesday at 11 am in the PMC building.
