The long-awaited National Power Policy announced by the Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Nadir Pervaiz on Friday lays main emphasis on the exploitation of hydel and other indigenous resources for development of future power projects. The new policy speaks of close association of the provinces with the identification of the project sites, preparation of feasibility reports and the bidding process. The policy outlines that hydel projects will be implemented on a build-own-operate- transfer (BOOT) basis, while thermal projects would be implemented on build-own-operate (BOO) terms. At the end of concession, Hydel projects, will be transferred to the host-province.
