The Government of Assam has formulated a new set of "Assam Wood-based Industries (Establishment and Regulation) Rules, 1999" to become effective very soon, in the matter of regulating timber trade in the State which had come to a total halt following a ban slapped by the Supreme Court on all timber-related activities in the North-East about five years ago.
