New scheme to double water supply in Namakkal

The Rs. 11 crore third new water supply expansion project that would be launched by Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday would double the water supply to residents of the municipal limit, says it's Chairman R. Selvaraj.
The two existing water schemes supply around 40 lakh litres a day to the town with a population of nearly 60,000 people, at an average of 70 litres per head.
Output
The third one would increase the total output to about 83 lakh litres and substantially increase the per head supply to 135 litres, Selvaraj told The Hindu.
According to the Chairman it would also ensure water distribution on a daily basis compared to the present periodicity of once in three days.
The project is executed through the Urban Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns scheme under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
