As a reactionary measure to mushrooming unauthorised constructions in the Capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched a software for detecting and monitoring such constructions and encroachments. An MCD spokesperson said the software had been developed at the behest of the civic body's Engineering Department and would include building activities as well. The software is to be implemented module-wise. At the launch of the system, Municipal Commissioner K. S. Mehra instructed all Zonal Deputy Commissioners to monitor the system closely and seriously on a regular basis. Initially, the system will be operated at the departmental level and will later be made available to the public on a dedicated website meant exclusively for public viewing. The website would also have the provision to record public comments on various Action Taken Reports against unauthorised construction. The software will be a "light' one that would be operable on handheld devices and mobile phones with GPRS facility. These devices will be provided to Junior Engineers and members of the Special Task Force who would be able to report any illegal encroachment and instantly submit it to the server. The relevant information would also be made available to the Executive Engineer (Building) of the Zone for taking further action. The Executive Engineer for his part will direct the demolition squad to the affected site for prompt action and stoppage of work. The Action Taken Reports will also be available on the control room monitor for verification.
