The government of Pakistan plans to replace about 100,000 two-stroke engine autorickshaws with 4 stroke-engine, phase wise, with a view to checking growing air and noise pollution in major cities. A delegation of leading manufacturers of autorickshaws had a meeting with the environment ministry officials and they presented their proposal to the environment minister Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mahmood. The number of two-stroke rickshaws has substantially increased over the years, resulting in increased level of emissions. The government has asked manufacturers to focus on the possibility of using four-stroke engine in rickshaws, being manufactured by them.
