The postponement of visit to India by the World Commision on Dams come on the heels of the frenzied protests by Gujarati politicians of all hues at a special session of the Gujarat Assembly on Friday called to condemn the Commission's impending visit. The day before this, a delegation headed by the Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr. Keshubhai Patel, had met the Prime Minister Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, and demanded that permission granted by the Government of India to hold the hearing be withdrawn.
