Dasheri village in Kakori block of Lucknow is a model village where residents have been able to break free by building self-help groups. More than 15 to 20 women from the village have been sensitised to form a self help group for tapping the areas of education, health and economics. The brain behind this cultural revolution in the UP villages is Anil Singh, a fellow of the Ashoka Foundation, Washington, and chief executive of Network for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (NEED), a non-government organisation.
