NGOs come into their own

  • 15/12/1999

It is remarkable that non-governmental organisations are today involved in 52 per cent of World Bank's projects around the world, according to the World Bank's Annual Report 1999. There has been a significant jump in NGO involvement in the last few years. While only 28 per cent of World Bank-run projects were run with NGO collaboration in the last decade between 1987-96, the figure had shot up to 47 per cent in 1997 and 50 per cent in 1998.
