NGOs' plea to Sinha on tax treatment

Representatives of several non-governmental organisations met the Union Finance Minister Mr. Yashwant Sinha, and pleaded for more favourable tax treatment of the non-profit sector in the forthcoming Budget. They also conveyed to him their apprehensions about the negative impact of some of the proposals incorporated in the Income Tax Bill. The delegation was led by Mrs. Pushpa Sundar, Executive Director of the Indian Centre for Philanthropy, representatives of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural and Heritage (INTACH), Development Alternatives, CRY, Concern Indian Foundation and CSE.
