Non-Governmental organisations working with the fishworker communities of Tamil Nadu have demanded that the Centre declare and implement a new deep sea fishing policy which would encourage the fisher community enhance their technologies.This was one of the demands put out by environmental and social groups, working under the coalition called the Coastal Action Network (CAN), in their fisheries manifesto for the present Lok Sabha elections.
