Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have joined hands to work for a ban on the use of landmines in India and elsewhere in the region. They will launch public awareness campaigns to highlight the "inhuman characteristics " of landmine use. This assumes significance in view of the fact that in terrorism-hit Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast, militants have now started using landmines.
