Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike staff part of the team
Members of the Regional Monitoring Committee (South) of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and officials from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) took stock of waste collection practices in Katpadi, Vellore district.
A team of officials led by member of Regional Monitoring Committee (South) Almitra Patel inspected solid waste management practices in Gandhi Nagar and Madhi Nagar in the Katpadi zone.
The team first inspected a compost centre located at Sadhuperi, where biodegradable waste is converted into manure, while non-biodegradable waste is segregated and sold to scrap dealers. This way, the waste is prevented from being accumulated in dump yards.
Tips from workers
After inspecting the source segregation methods adopted by the Vellore Municipal Corporation, the team took a few tips from workers who were at the spot.
Senior officials of the Vellore Municipal Corporation said the positive aspects of the waste management process could be implemented in other parts of the State and areas covered by BBMP.
