BHOPAL : National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday instructed Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) and MP Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (MPAKVN), to submit report about environment conservation and its effects on world heritage site Bhimbetka after expansion of industrial sector in Mandideep. Petitioner Dr SC Pandey drew NGT’s attention to its directions issued particularly with reference to the green belt to act as breakers keeping in view the sensitiveness of the area which is in close proximity to Bhimbetka. Advocate Sachin K Verma, who appeared on behalf of the state government, said that he may be allowed some time to submit the report of what steps the administration as well as the local authority, MPPCB and MPAKVN would take or have taken in this regard. MPAKVN is also proposing to come up with an extension of Phase -II of industrial area in Mandideep. MPAKVN is supposed to have already taken into account the environmental issue with particular reference to the area. The state as well as the MPAKVN and town municipality would also furnish details about the increase in population as a result of upcoming extended industrial area at Mandideep and also about what areas are likely to be developed as residential area. At present the residential area is close to industrial area and as such tapping of a nullah allowing it to flow into the river. The STP of municipal authorities is to take care of the existing inflow of sewage. MPPCB will apprise the Tribunal in the form of affidavit as to whether developing of Phase -II of the Industrial park at Mandideep would require environmental clearance to be obtained by the promoter MPAKVN or by the individual units that may be set up. There is any plan for identifying the nature of industries likely to be established in the Phase-II and whether issues like the high level of pollution in the Betwa River as also ambient air quality have been taken care of while planning the Phase-II.
