The government has started the process of restructuring the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Last week, a high-level brainstorming session was held by NHAI officials where consultants and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the road sector made their presentations on the methodology of the whole process. Since most of the ongoing projects and the ones planned for the future under the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) are on BOT basis, aspects like proper project management, methods of mobilising resources, and streamlining the economics of the projects, especially to avoid their time and cost overruns, were discussed in the meeting. According to sources, apart from NGOs, officials from the World Bank were also present during the session and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) was one of the significant consultants, which made a presentation in front of NHAI officials.
