The family of two-and-a-half-year-old endosulfan victim Prajitha is yet to get the compensation of Rs.2 lakh promised by the previous LDF government even eight months after her death.
“The compensation could not be disbursed to the bereaved family as the government order to this effect had not reached here,” Collector K.N. Satheesh told The Hindu on Wednesday.
The girl's family had already been paid Rs.1 lakh as part of the compensation announced by the UDF government for those who lost lives due to ailments attributed to endosulfan in the district, he said. The former Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy during a visit here on May 7 had announced an immediate compensation of Rs.2 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the family of Prajitha.
The Minister, who visited the Nattakallu residence of the girl near Mulleria, had also promised to initiate an inquiry into the alleged laxity in providing timely treatment to the victim as the family approached the General Hospital here on May 4.
The girl died at a private hospital the following day.
The death of the girl had drawn widespread protests in the town.
