No bird flu in Tinsukia, says Veterinary Department

Reports of death of more than 200 chicken at Balijan village under Panitola PS in Tinsukia district has created a fear psychosis here. The officials of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department have almost ruled out the spread of bird flu in the district and stated that there is no need for the poultry owners to panic. At a press meet held at the Inspection Bungalow, District Animal Husbandry and veterinary officer Dr Arup Das said that after assessing the ground situation of the village and the farms, a team of doctors and paramedical staff pointed towards the cold respiratory diseases (CRD) and white dysentery. The disease has not spread to the neighbouring areas or households, according to the doctors. The veterinary staff said that due to the lack of proper scientific management and hygiene, the chicken have been affected. Meanwhile, the blood serum and stool samples have been sent to the Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Khanapara, Guwahati, and Bhopal High Risk Security Disease Laboratory. Only after they receive the reports, they can be confirm about the nature of the disease. It is to be mentioned that more than 100 blood samples have been sent for tests. However, as a precautionary measure against the outbreak of bird flu, 16 rapid action teams have been requisitioned in the district. In order to create awareness on poultry management, animal health camps would be held in various parts of the district from February 9 to 22.
