May 25: What is the tiger population in the state? Nobody is sure as different agencies are coming up with different numbers.
With the DNA fingerprinting technology by collecting scat and hair samples failing to take off, officials have conducted the latest survey based on the pug mark technology.
The chief wildlife warden, Mr Hitesh Malhotra, said there are 98 tigers in the state excluding the Kawal wildlife sanctuary in Adilabad.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, which took up the project of DNA fingerprinting of tigers in the state a few years, is yet to come out with numbers.
Mr Malhotra said,
