The controversy over the opening and closing of the Thanneermukkom bund in Kerala has a history of 25 years and is still eluding a solution. The decision of the Thanneermukkom Bund Advisory Committee, constituted by the Government, to close down the shutters now due to high tide has been resisted by fishermen and paddy farmers in Kuttanad on the other hand point out loss of crop due to salinity if the shutters are kept open.
