Residents with borewell connections in Vasant Kunj, Sainik Farms, Panchsheel Park, Greater Kailash and other parts of South Delhi may have to pay for the water they're pumping out. The DJB Amendment Bill submitted by the Delhi Jal Board last week for the state Cabinet's approval proposes to put a price on groundwater connections. Similar to the water regulatory system implemented in Chandigarh almost five years ago, the DJB plans to register every consumer using groundwater and charge a fee on borewell connections. The domestic borewell connections use 2 to 3 horsepower (HP.) Based on the Chandigarh model, the monthly rates are likely to be around Rs 1,000 per HP.
