Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Thursday that fertile land in six villages close to Ambala City will not be acquired for setting up a model industrial township. Hooda announced this while addressing a deputation of the state Youth Congress in his Chandigarh residence. The delegation was led by state Youth Congress president Chiranjiv Rao. When asked about the acquisition notices that has already been sent to farmers, the chief minister said that under government rules, the notices would lapse after six months if the concerned department did not go in for further action in the matter. The state government had already issued notices to acquire over 1,600 acres of land under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act. Since then, the landowners have been protesting against the move.
