Eluru, Sept. 19: The revenue minister, Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao, made it clear that the government would no longer acquire lands from farmers for setting industrial units under the private sector. He said that instead industrialists themselves had to acquire the land from farmers after acceding to their demands. The minister told newsmen here on Friday that the government had taken a policy decision recently to see that no land acquisition was taken up against the interests of farmers. He said that out of the required six lakh acres land for taking up irrigation projects under the Jala Yagnam programme, 4.5 lakh acres had been acquired in the state so far. Referring to the hue and cry from opposition parties over the proposed coastal corridor, the minister ruled out any damage to villagers as well as fishermen. He said that the coastal corridor proposed from Nellore to Itchapuram would, in fact, help improve the living conditions of people living in the vicinity of the project. He added that as part of the coastal corridor, a parallel road to National Highway-5 would be constructed. He said that farmers from whom land was acquired for laying the road would be given compensation as well as developed lands. As part of the first phase of the coastal corridor, nearly 138 km road was being laid from Kakinada to Visakhapatnam and added that it would be extended from Nellore to Itchapuram in a phased manner. The minister said that when the government proposed a ring road in Hyderabad, there was a hue and cry over it and when the issue was taken up for discussion in the Assembly, people accepted it. Similarly, a section of people were taking up a misinformation campaign on the coastal corridor project and advised them not to do so.
