Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnani march today
District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir has said here that there is no ground to be apprehensive about the compensation due to the families of endosufan victims.
The district administration had been informed about the apprehension of the families that they might be deprived of the compensation suggested by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). There was no need to worry about the government’s intentions, he said in a press release issued here on Wednesday.
The Collector’s remarks have come ahead of a Collectorate march being planned by the Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnani here on Thursday, accusing the State government of a move to deprive a large section of the affected families from availing a compensation of Rs.5 lakh each to the kin of the dead and totally bed-ridden patients and Rs.3 lakh each to the seriously ailing patients.
‘Verifying list’
The administration was now engaged in verifying the existing list of the totally bed-ridden patients and the seriously ill patients who were already availing the pension and free medical treatment announced by the government.
The exercise was part of the efforts to ensure that all the deserving persons were ensured of the compensation and not to omit them, he said, adding that there was absolutely no move to deliberately omit any deserving families from availing the compensation suggested by the NHRC.
