Bidders Want The River Flowing Through Out The Year Free Of Sewage

Ahmedabad: Flowing and fresh water in Sabarmati is key to the proposal of floating restaurant on the river. Yet another bid to set up a floating restaurant in the river has fallen apart with only one person showing interest and that too not for the restaurant. The reasons are multiple.
According to officials, the main reason is that the bidders want Sabarmati to be free of drainage water and also want round-the-clock flow.
However, the tender documents of Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) had clearly stated that it will not be available round the year. The tender bid floated had made it clear that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) authority foresees approximately 10 months of water availability in the river per year.
The dry period may vary, said AMC officials. However, during the dry days, the operator was given the liberty to operate from a specific location even if the river runs dry.
Officials said some of the domestic players who had come forward in the earlier bids were reluctant to start the service, as there was no guarantee from the AMC regarding managing the required water level to start a floating restaurant.
The domestic bidders were aware that Sabarmati had more sewerage water then fresh water. Several storm water drainage outlets opened in the river and overflowed with drainage water.
AMC has failed to curb this menace. Officials said during a meeting too, officials failed to give assurance about fresh water in the river.
