PWD Minister Durai Murugan on Friday expressed shock over the reported assurance given by Union Minister of State for Environment Jairam Ramesh to Andhra Pradesh government that permission would be given for constructing a dam across the Palar river within 15 days As soon as Andhra Pradesh government announced that it would construct a dam across the Palar, the Tamil Nadu Government opposed it and filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The apex court had asked the Central Water Commission to discuss the issue with both the State Governments and find a solution Accordingly, both States had given technical details to the commission Besides, a committee comprising a superintending engineer from Tamil Nadu had been formed to study the issue The CWC had also directed Andhra Pradesh not to go ahead with the project before the issue was settled.
