Angry residents blame officials for worsening air quality Despite air pollution touching severe level here, the Noida Authority has failed to take action against violators, residents claimed. They accused the Authority’s projects of generating dust in several parts of the city. Heaps of sand lie dumped along the roads, with no sprinkling of water around construction sites. Pollution-control measures are also not being taken either by the Authority or the contractors at the sites. “Many residential societies have been adhering to rules and sprinkling water to settle dust but the Noida Authority has dug up roads and service lanes, accumulating debris along the roads,” Arun Kumar, a resident said, adding that the Authority itself is causing major pollution in the city. “I live on 10th floor but am forced to stay indoors due to the bad air quality and dust,” said Ashok Kumar, another resident. Sector 76 has a similar tale to tell. “We have been fighting for good quality air for years. We are now fed up with the attitude of the Authority. The situation has turned worse,” said Ashish Gupta, another resident. When contacted, a Noida Authority officer on special duty, Rajesh Kumar Singh said he will direct the engineers and contractors concerned to look into it. “The matter is not in my knowledge. I will ask the teams concerned to inspect and make all necessary arrangements to prevent air pollution,” he added.
